The curious case of Anand Abraham Mohammed

There’s much criticism that today’s youth is guided by monetary aspirations. Education is to them is a mere cheque book which would ecash into a cushy job, a beautiful bride and comfortable life style. Well, who is to be blamed if they, the youth of the day, are turning into worshippers of mormon? Does manna await after much labour for those who take the path untrodden..Here’s a case in the point.


Anand Abraham Mohammed, that’s the name. Anand is 35 years old, eagerly waiting to get his sister married off so that his parents would then get him rid of his cursed bacherlor status. His sister being a manglik and not exactly Aishwarya Rai, Anand does not see any immediate reasons for his chances of enjoying the nuptials of his dream. Meanwhile , he has been a good student and at some point in his childhood had dreamt of becoming a professor at a government college. What a prestige! What a pride!. He remembered how his father would always praise his younger brother for his studiousness and hardwork. His uncle is today the Head of the Department at his college for Mathematics .
It had been more or less pre-decided by his friends and family that Anand would become a professor. So, after post-graduation , Anand took up research at the behest of his professor and went on to acquire a much envied PhD in Economics. To further fortify his chances of appointment he went on to publish a book on hard core, high brow Economics with a fellow economic genius. His interest in research got acclaim when one of his articles was published in an international paper. He continues to write for the local newspapers on matters of economic importance. The tragedy is that Anand has met with failure in all of his attempts to secure a job wth the reputed universities of the state(read, Madhya Pradesh). Though he has been solicited by the privated ones , Anand has doubts about the longevity of such jobs. So, what does such an aspiritng economist with a Phd and more than a single publication to his credit do? Teach at a local school where a monthly salary of decent proportion is guaranteed. And this is what he is doing today . The common man who reads papers understands that there are ample vacancies in most government colleges. Then why are such youngmen talented and well-endowed with qualifications, side-lined? The answer to the question is rampant corruption, excessive political interference and nepotism. Until these social maladies are not wiped out , research, the true back bone of a prosperous nation will never find takers among the youth.Only fools rush where angels fear to tread....
